Duck Log Privacy Policy
Effective: October 17, 2026
Duck Log is an iOS app made by DB3 IT Solutions LLC ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses and where it goes. The short version: we do not collect, receive, or have access to any of your data.
What we don't do
Duck Log has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no third-party software development kits. We do not track you, sell data, or share data with anyone. We do not operate any server that receives information from the app.
Information you enter
Your hunt records — dates, harvest counts, notes, spots, weather, band numbers, hunting party names, dog names, retrieves, custom species, and similar details — are stored on your device.
If you are signed in to iCloud, this information is also synced to your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit service, so it's available on your other devices and backed up. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account. We cannot access it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
If you add names of hunting partners, that information is stored and synced the same way and is never shared with us or anyone else.
Location
Duck Log uses your location only while you are using the app, and only for:
- Showing shooting hours for where you are
- Determining which state's rules and regulations apply
- Saving the location of a hunting spot when you choose to
The app does not track your location in the background.
To determine your state, the app sends the coordinates to Apple's geocoding service. Coordinates of saved spots are stored on your device and synced to your private iCloud database. Your current location used for shooting hours stays on your device and is not synced.
You can deny or change location access at any time in iOS Settings. The app still works without it; you can choose your state manually.
Photos and camera
You can attach photos to hunts. When you choose photos from your library, you select which ones the app can use — the app cannot browse your library. When you take a photo with the camera, only still photos are captured; the app does not use the microphone.
Photos are re-saved at a reduced size, which removes embedded metadata such as GPS location. They are stored on your device and synced to your private iCloud database.
Shooting hours data
Once a day at most, the app downloads a public file of shooting hours rules and regulation links from a GitHub Pages website we maintain. No personal information is sent with this request. As with any web request, GitHub receives your device's IP address and standard technical information about the app and iOS. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.
Links to other websites
When you tap a link to view hunting regulations, the app opens that state agency's or publisher's website. Those sites are not operated by us and have their own privacy practices, which may include their own tracking.
Notifications
Duck Log does not send you notifications. It receives silent background updates from iCloud only to keep your data in sync across your devices.
Device backups
Like all iOS apps, Duck Log's on-device data is included in your normal iCloud or computer backup of your device.
Deleting your data
- Delete individual hunts, spots, guests, dogs, and unused custom species in the app. Deleting a spot removes its saved location; past hunts keep the spot's name. Other species can be hidden, which keeps them out of the way but doesn't delete them. Deletions sync to your other devices.
- Deleting the app removes its data from that device.
- To remove Duck Log's data from iCloud, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage, choose Duck Log, and delete its data. (Menu names may vary slightly by iOS version.)
Because we never receive your data, we cannot view, export, or delete it for you — but we're happy to help you do it yourself.
Children
Duck Log is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the app's use of data changes, we will update this policy and the effective date above before releasing the change.
